[[HONG KONG, 5 November 2019] On behalf of the management of The Hongkong and Shanghai Hotels, Limited (HSH), we are delighted and proud to announce that Mr Peter Borer has been honoured with a Lifetime Achievement Award from the Alumni association of École hôtelière de Lausanne (AEHL). EHL is the leading hospitality management school in Switzerland and is consistently regarded as one of the most prestigious hospitality schools in the world. The award was presented by the Global Alliance & Partnership Director of EHL, Valérie de Corte, during a Gala event in Switzerland on 4 November 2019.
HSH Chief Executive Officer Clement Kwok said “It gives me great pleasure to congratulate Peter Borer on the receipt of this very prestigious award. Over his long career with the company, he has been involved with developing some of the finest hotels in the world. Peter’s attention to detail, creativity and passion are legendary. It is his personal qualities that make him such a remarkable leader and hotelier. He has a great sense of respect and caring for people, both staff and external stakeholders. We are very proud of him.”
Speaking at the award ceremony, Mr. Borer commented: “I would like to dedicate this award to my parents, who taught me at a very young age what a privilege it is to serve others. I also dedicate it to the Chairman of HSH, The Honourable Sir Michael Kadoorie, who always lets me ‘dream big’ and sometimes these dreams turn into reality, which I find very humbling. I am delighted to thank our CEO Clement Kwok, and all my colleagues at the HSH Group and The Peninsula Hotels for their commitment and loyalty. I would also like to acknowledge Mr Eric Gerber, the former General Manager of EHL, who believed in me from the earliest days.”
Mr. Borer joined HSH in 1981. In the next four years he was promoted to senior executive positions in The Peninsula Bangkok and The Peninsula Hong Kong, culminating in his appointment as Resident Manager of the latter.
In 1985 he was promoted to Director of Sales & Marketing at the Company’s head office and by 1990, after several promotions, had risen to the post of Senior Vice President, The Peninsula Hotels. In this capacity, he was responsible for planning the renovation of The Peninsula Hong Kong and the construction of its new tower extension.
In 1994 he returned to operations as General Manager of The Peninsula Hong Kong. In 1999, he assumed wider responsibility for The Peninsula Hotels’ portfolio of Asian properties (Hong Kong, Manila, Bangkok and Beijing) as Regional General Manager, and was then further promoted to Group General Manager (Asia) in 2002. He was appointed to the Board as an Executive Director and Chief Operating Officer of the group in 2004.
